Best Watches Under 500 for Men - Nørsejord
Here at Nørsejord, we strongly believe in upholding the traditional wristwatch as a complimentary part of men’s outfit. However, when you’re first getting into watches, it’s a slippery slope, and you’ll definitely need a nudge in the right direction. My parents always said my hobby of collecting watches is an expensive hobby, but that couldn’t be more untrue, there are many great value brands with a great resale market.

Here are some disclaimers about this guide:
  • No smartwatches, read a tech blog for that, we are not fans of those here
  • No quartz watches, we understand that there are some extremely high quality quartz watches out there, but for this price point, we’ll stick with mechanical.

Seiko SARB033 Review

The Seiko SARB033 is widely known for it’s premium self -winding movement, the Seiko 6R15 caliber, that can be hacked and hand wound. This movement powers a lot of Seiko’s Prospex line. This timepiece has an amazing 50 hour power reserve, meaning it would stay wound for 50 hours even after you stop moving it around.

The case of SARB033 features a beautifully brushed finish and a sporty black dial with luminous hands and silver hour markers. The steel bracelet has a smooth deployment clasp and a two button release. My favourite feature of the watch is it’s tough sapphire crystal with a Hardlex display of the movement.

Overall a luxury tier watch at an easily affordable price – a piece surpassed by none when it comes to value.

Tissot Heritage Visodate Automatic

This Tissot piece has perfected the clash between classic and contemporary minimalism. The crystal is a slightly curved sapphire and let me tell you, looks beautiful in person. This piece uses the ETA 2836-2 movement (Swiss).

Please note the white face that is shown in the pictures has a slight silvery hue in real life. Unlike the SARB033, the display case back uses Sapphire – overall great timepiece for the price. The main downside is the stock leather band isn’t the best, but can be easily swapped out.

Hamilton Khaki King

Hamilton is a great brand with a wonderful history that was once based in the US, but is now under the Swatch group. In my opinion (and many others), they make for a great first automatic purchase. The military influence is apparent in this piece, and makes for a simple and functional watch.
Personally I love the 24 hour display of the hours on the watch. One of the main differences between the Khaki king over other Khakis is the day of the week and date window at the 12 o’clock. The Hamilton Khaki King is extremely versatile, with the leather strap, it’s a great daily wear, and swap it out for a bracelet for a classier look. A purchase would be a no brainer, no one would regret this.

Seiko SARB065 Review914muq38l9l-_uy445_

Another Seiko to this list, and just to give you a quick hint, it isn’t the last one. In terms value, I’d recommend the SARB033 over this, however the design of the watch is just superb. Contrary to what the picture looks like the dial isn’t actually blue, it’s a highly reflective silver.
Seiko SARB065 uses the same premium movement as the SARB033, the 6R15 caliber. Only downside is that the crystal is made up of Hardlex which is very susceptible to scratches. Other than that, this piece is one of my favourite dress watches.

Hamilton Jazzmaster Review

Hamilton is a great brand for this price point, and in my opinion, I’d start off with the Jazzmaster over the Khaki King. This Jazzmaster is rocking a ETA 2824-2 automatic movement, a workhorse and hell of a movement. An elegant dress watch with over 40 hours of reserve and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal (quite rare at this price point).
Might be bias, but I’m a huge fan of rose gold, and in my opinion, the best Swiss movement at this price point.
